Overview

Domino’s offered to fill the potholes that damage carryout pizza on the way home. People nominated their town on a campaign site, and Domino’s funded paving in towns they nominated. I was one of four QA analysts who tested that site.

The Project

A nomination site that had to work on day one

Paving for Pizza launched in June 2018 with four test cities. The site was the campaign: an interactive landing page where anyone could nominate their town, sign up, and get a confirmation email.

If it broke, the campaign broke with it. One person could submit hundreds of nominations for their own street. Invalid entries could slip through and throw off tracking. Submissions could fail without anyone knowing. And it all had to hold up on every browser and screen size at once.

Our Approach

Test the whole path, not just the page

We tested every step a person would take, from landing on the page to the confirmation email in their inbox. All testing was manual and tracked in Jira.

My Role

One of four QA analysts

I was a QA analyst on a four-person QA team. I worked across every type of testing and reported issues directly to the developers.

  1. 01Ran injection testing on the nomination and sign-up fields
  2. 02Compared builds against the designs at each breakpoint
  3. 03Reviewed site and email copy, and tested the emails end to end

Impact & Results

From four test cities to all 50 states

  • 194K+Unique nominations, by May 2019
  • 17,198Zip codes nominated
  • 50States with nominations

The site took more than 137,000 nominations by the end of August 2018. That response led Domino’s to grow the program from four test cities to one community in every state. Nominations kept coming into 2019, passing 194,000.

These results belong to everyone who built the campaign: strategy, design, development and QA.
